Asymmetrical

What does this word mean? Symmetry suggests evenness

Asymmetry connotes a lack of equilibrium and balance

Why does the world seem so asymmetrical? Global South versus Global North; Rich versus Poor; Ukraine versus Russia; Hamas versus Israel; Right versus Left and Peace hard to find.

The Cold War featured a symmetrical standoff: Soviet Union nuclear versus U.S.A. nuclear and thus no war. When the Cold War ended,

Afghan-based Arab terrorists, facing asymmetrical odds, hijacked 747 airliners and changed America forever. Ukraine, despite all predictions, used small satellite drones to halt a Russian invasion which was supposed to last a week.

Wire cutters, tunnels and motorized paragliders allowed Hamas terrorists to wreak havoc on one of the fiercest armies in the world located just next door in Israel. When will asymmetrical warfare strike next? Asymmetry is the weapon of the terrorist and seems to rule the world. The stirrup turned horses into weapons in the 1st century allowing the Mongols to sweep Central Europe. What has changed?

Where are the instruments of peace? What will end the bloodshed? All the great religions espouse peace and harmony. Do we not still believe that one person’s death diminishes us all? For we are all part of mankind. So, therefore, send not to know for whom the bell tolls, it tolls for thee.*
